A Korea SME has exported a ‘Lottery Lotto’ system made with domestic technology to Latin America.
Windy Plan Co., Ltd., a specialized company in building lottery ticket systems, has exported lottery ticket technology to Peru and started issuing them from last month, November 31st. The company, which possesses its own lottery ticket issuance system, including lottery ticket solutions and sales terminals, took a year to prepare and started issuing lottery tickets and scratch cards in Lima, the capital of Peru, and nationwide cities last month.
In Korea, following the first term Lotto Lottery, the second term Lotto Lottery (Nanum Lotto) has also imported the technology of foreign companies to issue lottery tickets, while the domestic company (WindyPlan) has exported lottery tickets.
The lottery market in Peru generates an annual revenue of around 100 billion won, with a consistent growth of 30% in revenue each year, indicating an active and expanding lottery market. Until recently, Intralot, based in Greece, held a monopoly on lottery issuance in Peru. However, with the entry of Windy Plan, the lottery market in Peru has transitioned into a competitive system. Peru, which recently signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Korea, has a population of 29 million and a per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of around $4,300. The country's economic size ranks high in Latin America, and continues to experience robust growth in the range of 10% annually.
This Peruvian lottery was approved by the Peruvian Ministry of Gender Equality and Welfare, and the proceeds will be utilized for welfare funds for disabled individuals and the impoverished in Peru. The product name is 'Lotto Fácil'. 'Fácil' means 'easy' in Spanish, conveying the meaning that winning the first prize is easy. Kim Hyeong-joo, CEO of WindyPlan, stated, "WindyPlan's solutions and sales terminals have been internationally recognized for their performance and stability," adding, "By entering Peru, we aim to expand into other countries in Latin America, thereby extending the reach of Korean lottery products."
WindyPlan launched the Lotto lottery in Mongolia in 2004 and signed a contract to export its lottery system to Cambodia in 2007. Unlike other companies bidding for the '2nd Lotto Business' in South Korea in 2007, which imported foreign solutions, WindyPlan was the only domestic solution to participate in the bidding with Woori Bank, CJ, Daewoo Information & Communication, and Tmax.
